17821-Mar-2009Eskdale weekend (Sat)Walking weekend in the Lakes with accomodation at the excellent YHA in Eskdale, Penny Hill Farm and Brookhouse. Two walks on the Saturday. The weather was beautiful and sunny. The more difficult walk ascended Scafell, England's second highest peak via Lord's Rake. Stunning views of Eskdale and Wasdale as well as the magnificent crags of Scafell were enjoyed by 15 walkers. A relaxed start and a couple of rest stops in the sun meant a late finish, in time for excellent food prepared by warden, Mick, his wife and team back at the hostel. The second walk went over to the Duddon valley and also proved quite strenuous but very enjoyable.
17922-Mar-2009Eskdale weekend (Sun)Day two of our weekend away. After a good breakfast the remaining party gathered for a wind down walk of 5 miles in the Eskdale Valley. This scenic little route proved popular, taking in Scale Force and Gill Force, shady glens and a riverside amble. A good turnout for the weekend showed the weekends are still popular and Eskdale to be a great location. It was a shame for a few people who couldn't come along as they missed a good weekend. Hope to see you next time.
