14416-Apr-2005Buttermere (YHA w/e)In a stunning location above the shore of Buttermere and about 400 yards from two good pubs (Fish Hotel and The Bridge Hotel). Good quality rooms. Excellent showers and toilets. Views from smallish first floor lounge magnificent. Food very good especially the evening meal Steak and Ale Pie, Borrodale Trout, Sticky Toffee Pudding. We could not find anything to mend at this hostel. Highly recommended. Walk: From the YHA along far side of Buttermere, up to Scarth Gap, over Haystacks, down a gill and back along near side of lake. VERY cold on the top, plenty of lying snow, cold mist.

14824-Sept-2005Pen-y-GhentFrom Horton in Ribblesdale via Brackenbottom to Pen-y-Ghent. Back via Hull Pot. About 30 walkers and Max the dog.
14915-Oct-2005Coniston (YHA w/e)Coniston Holly How YHA is a very friendly and efficiently run hostel about 1/2 mile from the centre of Coniston village. Good setting, nice rooms, hot showers with lots of water. Helpful friendly staff. Excellent homemade evening meal. Good quality breakfasts served very efficently. Plenty of room in the dinning room. All in all a very good experience. Walk: Up Walna Scar Road. Up across Dow Crag down to Goats Hause and up on to Coniston Old Man. Back down through the old mine workings.
15016-Oct-2005Coniston (YHA w/e)From near Yewtree Farm up the gill to Tarn Hows. From the north end of Tarn Hows up on to Black Crag. Back around the tarns.
15112-Nov-2005SalesburyFrom school down to the River Ribble and around and back. Pie and peas at the Cricket Club at the end of the walk.
